The Mumbai Police Crime Branch has arrested a 30-year-old IIT graduate and IT engineer from Bengaluru for allegedly threatening Bollywood actors Ayushmann Khurrana and Tusshar Kapoor and demanding crores of rupees while posing as a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

The accused, identified as Vaibhav Mishra, was traced to Bengaluru after cybercrime investigators tracked the social media accounts used to send the threatening messages and examined their digital footprints. “We have taken the suspect into custody in Bengaluru,” a senior Mumbai Police official said.

According to preliminary findings, Mishra was working in Bengaluru’s technology sector and allegedly acted independently, with investigators finding no operational links between him and the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Police suspect that he attempted to exploit recent security scares involving Bollywood personalities to extort money by impersonating Members of the gang.

The threats against Khurrana and Kapoor were allegedly issued by an unidentified individual claiming to represent the Bishnoi gang. The Crime Branch is investigating the case and examining the digital evidence to establish the sequence of events and the accused’s alleged role in the extortion attempts.

Further investigation is underway.
