HYDERABAD: The Malkajgiri special operations team (SOT) inspected 14 hookah centres and cafés in different areas under the commissionerate limits and registered four criminal cases and apprehended seven persons for various violations. Legal proceedings have been initiated against those responsible.

Police officials said the inspections were conducted based on credible information and as part of routine enforcement to prevent unauthorised commercial activities, ensure public health standards, and maintain law and order. They observed that several hookah centres were functioning without required permissions and were violating safety guidelines.

Malkajgiri Police warned hookah centre owners, café managers and others involved in such businesses to strictly follow legal rules and obtain necessary licences and approvals before continuing operations. Officials said strict legal action would be taken against anyone found violating regulations, including criminal cases and seizure of materials.

The special drive was carried out under the supervision of Malkajgiri police commissioner B. Sumathi and the guidance of SOT DCP K. Manohar. Police said surprise inspections and similar drives would continue in the future.
