I’m A Celebrity star Anne Hegerty has spoken out about the controversial and explosive South Africa finale after Adam Thomas was crowned winner

Ex I’m A Celebrity star Anne Hegerty waded in on last night’s controversial win as Adam Thomas took home the crown for I’m A Celebrity: South Africa.

Since 2010, Anne has been a chaser on the ITV game show The Chase as The Governess, and was a contestant on the 2018 series of the ITV reality show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! where she finished in seventh place.

The final of the ITV show descended into chaos as Jimmy Bullard took Adam to task for what happened in their row over the Rancid Run trial. Adam and Jimmy came to verbal blows when he decided to head home and quit the trial, essentially forfeiting Adam’s place on the show – and leaving all the other campmates stunned.

Anne, who is clearly team Adam, spoke out on why she thought the public chose Adam to win, citing him “relatable”. She said: “I think people could relate to Adam.. People don’t like bullying and they don’t like someone nearly getting someone else sent home through no fault of their own. They mind those far more than someone swearing under pressure. This will raise Adam’s profile so much. He’s A List now!”

Adam broke his own silence this morning after his win with a post where he said he refused to let people “dim his light”.

He wrote on Instagram : “I walked through this journey with my heart first, no matter what came my way…It was not always easy, there were moments that could have broken me, but I stayed true to myself and that is something I will always be proud of.

“I have realised that when people try to dim your light, it says more about them than it ever will about you.

“This experience has shown me my strength in ways I never imagined. Not because of any title or recognition, but because I stayed kind, I stayed grounded and I stayed real.”

He added: “Family means everything to me, and there is one person who has been my rock through it all. Happy birthday to my Beautiful wife, you have stood by me when things were tough and reminded me of my strength when I needed it most. I would not be who I am without you.

“To everyone who supported me, who believed in me and showed love, thank you, it means more than I can ever put into words. And to those who doubted me or tried to bring me down, I carry no negativity towards you. I have already won in the ways that matter most. I have love, I have happiness and I have stayed true to myself, and that is something no one can ever take away from me. I hope one day you can do the same.”

In last night’s final, Jimmy explained how the fight had really gone, saying it was originally for stars for camp – and then they dropped the bombshell that people would be leaving. He explained that he had told producers he wanted to go and exited that way so he was able to get his full fee from ITV for his time on the show.

Jimmy accused Adam of being “intimidating, aggressive and abusive” and he asked Ant and Dec if that was the case. Ant said he didn’t think it was intimidating and from there, all hell broke loose.

Gemma Collins walked off and Sinitta also shouted at the audience – before they finally got things back together enough to crown Adam the winner. He didn’t look happy, given all that had gone ahead, but has since reflected on the show in the emotional post above, where he also paid a happy birthday tribute to his wife.
