Jaxson Dart and the New York Giants entered Week 2 with plenty of momentum after opening the season with a win over the Dallas Cowboys. However, that optimism quickly faded as they suffered a 28-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams, with Dart exiting the game after sustaining an injury.
Dart’s latest setback prompted some eyebrow-raising remarks from two-time Super Bowl champion LeSean McCoy, who is now pessimistic about the Giants QB achieving his true potential.

Dart suffered the injury less than four minutes into Monday night’s game while facing pressure on a third-and-8 play. Rams linebacker Byron Young made contact with Dart from the quarterback’s right side, knocking him into linebacker Josaiah Stewart, who hit the Giants QB’s legs and caused him to take a hard fall.
Dart was ultimately ruled out of the game. His injury is not considered season-ending, but he is expected to miss some time with a suspected MCL sprain.
However, the latest setback also prompted McCoy to express frustration over Dart’s injury history.

“I am done promoting and backing up players that are always injured,” McCoy said Monday night on the “Speakeasy” podcast. “If you’re injured, pass; I don’t want nothing to do with you.
“Because every time we get so hyped on a team, the main player gets hurt. Now we can’t talk about it. Jaxson Dart, hell of a player. You think the moment that the Giants had going on? Good quarterback, running a good running game.

“You talk about the attitude they show. Last time they played the Cowboys, all these things… Now they’re the team we want, the quarterback we want. And every time I look around, you are always hurt. So I think from now on, when we (are) talking about these players, if a player has an injured background or past, I will not want to talk about them.”
Dart has dealt with a few notable injuries throughout his football career. He suffered a right meniscus tear and MCL sprain in a college football game against Washington State in 2021, causing him to miss four games.

Dart also suffered a Grade 1 concussion during the Giants’ Week 10 game against the Chicago Bears in 2025. He missed two games after that concussion, and Monday’s setback has now added another concern to his injury history.
This injury setback will be a tough pill to swallow for Dart, who entered Monday’s matchup coming off a phenomenal performance against the Cowboys. In New York’s Week 1 win, he became the first quarterback in NFL history to begin a season with at least three passing touchdowns, 50 rushing yards, and a passer rating of 130.
Dart completed only three of five passes for 20 yards before exiting Monday’s game. The Giants struggled significantly after losing their starting quarterback, eventually being outgained 481-182 by the Rams.
Dart entered Week 2 with a PFN QB Impact score of 90.8, which is the second-highest Week 1 score, behind only Brock Purdy (96.8).
