Welcome to I Tried It, a GOLF.com series about golf items — apparel, gear, accessories, etc. — that we’ve recently taken out for a spin. We’re here to give our honest, no-frills takes on the latest and greatest golf or golf-adjacent items. So, scroll down to read about what we love about golf’s newest (or new to us) products.

I’ve never wanted to use a push cart.

This stems from years of watching perfectly normal men turn into unpaid baggage handlers somewhere between the first tee and the parking lot. One minute they’re standing proudly over a new purchase, explaining hidden compartments, wheel bearings and aircraft-grade aluminum. Four holes later they’re wrestling it up a cart path like a suitcase with a broken handle.

The push-cart market runs on promises. Compact folding. Effortless rolling. Lightweight construction. Eventually you learn to stop believing. So I approached the Big Max Blade IP 2 with the same skepticism I bring to anything described as “effortless.”

Where the Big Max Blade IP 2 excels

The first surprise is how absurdly small it folds. Manufacturers love claiming their products disappear into tiny spaces. Usually that means the size of a dishwasher instead of a refrigerator. The Blade IP 2 actually folds down into something that seems physically impossible: a flat panel about five inches thick. It fits in the trunk of a two-seater, which is the only kind of car a push cart should ever have to fit in. It unfolds in seconds, and the rear wheels even fold themselves. No manual required.

The second surprise is the weight, or more accurately, the absence of it. For an aluminum cart, the Blade IP2 is suspiciously light, just under 15 pounds. The first time I lifted it from the trunk, I looked underneath to make sure a wheel wasn’t still rolling around the parking lot.

Yet it’s remarkably solid. Usually when something gets lighter, it starts feeling flimsy. The Blade IP2 avoids that trap completely.

On the course, it does what every push cart promises and very few accomplish: it disappears. The wheels track straight, it rolls easily, and it handles uneven ground without threatening to launch your bag into a pond. Most push carts eventually take on the personality of a shopping cart with a bent wheel. The Big Max just follows along quietly.

Most importantly, it never made me look ridiculous. At my age, I’m one poor equipment choice away from becoming the guy in white wraparound sunglasses explaining cryptocurrency to strangers.

The Blade IP 2 folds impossibly small, weighs next to nothing, and does its job without asking for attention. That’s exactly what good golf equipment should do.
