The Inbetweeners is making a huge comeback but producers have confirmed that not all of the fans’ favourites will be returning
News of the return of The Inbetweeners left fans in a spin, but they quickly wondered whether fan favourite Emily Atack would be back. Sadly, the movie producers appear to have hinted she won’t be reprising her fan-favourite role, saying they haven’t been able to “squeeze in every single beloved character” from the TV shows.
Emily’s character, Charlotte ‘Big Jugs’ Hinchcliffe, had a brief fling with nerdy Will McKenzie (Simon Bird). And while she proved a popular choice during the series, she was nowhere to be seen in the movies that followed.
Rumours suggested a past real-life fling with James Buckley could have been behind her no-show. But now, creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley have hinted her latest non-appearance is due to scripts.
They said on Instagram that they couldn’t find a “plausible way in the script to bring back all the ‘fwends’.”
The duo added: “People will speculate about why we made these choices. But, sadly, the truth is we just couldn’t find a plausible way in the script to bring back all our lovely ‘fwends’. It’s not as headline worthy, but it’s the truth.”
They stopped short of revealing who they were talking about, with some followers panicking it was actually regarding Greg Davies’ character Mr Gilbert.
A sneak peek at photos last week showed some of the characters who would be returning. Former Emmerdale actress Emily Head, who starred as Simon’s teenage obsession Carli D’Amato for the three series of the E4 TV show from 2008 and 2010 and the 2011 film, was spotted on set.
Other new faces on set include Irish actor Tadhg Murphy, American actress Lisanne Falk – best known for starring alongside Winona Ryder and Christian Slater in Heathers – and Black Mirror actress Marama Corlette.
And James Buckley also seemingly revealed a major detail about his role in the upcoming movie. The TV star, who has also starred in Zapped, Doctor Who and Red Dwarf, is a prominent figure on the celebrity greetings website Cameo, where individuals pay to receive custom messages from those in the public eye.
But now, given that James wore a high-vis jacket emblazoned with an in-universe logo in his latest Cameo, fans think he may have ended up working at his father’s construction company.
One said: “His dads business was Cartwright Plant Hire so the jacket shows he is probably working there.”
Then, the person who posted the video wrote: “Oh s**t I feel like I’ve leaked something now unknowingly. He shouldn’t have sent me the vid then should he …I didn’t sign no nda.”
