In a landmark example of cross-border medical innovation, an Indian doctor based in China successfully performed a remote robotic surgery on a patient in Hyderabad from nearly 3,000 kilometres away.

The procedure was carried out at Tongji Hospital in Wuhan, located in China’s Hubei province. Dr Syed Mohammed Ghouse, a urologist, conducted a bladder reconnection surgery using advanced robotic technology developed in China.

According to local media reports, the surgery was completed in about 90 minutes and the procedure involved close coordination between medical teams in China and India, supported by high-speed network systems and robotic surgical equipment.

Before the surgery, Dr Ghouse and the Indian medical team jointly reviewed the patient’s medical reports online and finalised a detailed surgical plan, including the movements of the robotic arms.

At the Hyderabad hospital, doctors and nurses prepared the patient for surgery by administering anaesthesia and positioning the robotic instruments inside the body. The robotic arms were equipped with precision surgical tools and high-definition 3D cameras, enabling Dr Ghouse to control the procedure remotely from Wuhan in real time.

Hospital officials described the operation as a significant advancement in telemedicine and robotic-assisted healthcare, highlighting the growing potential of remote surgery in improving access to specialised medical treatment across borders.
