New Delhi: The Indian Navy is conducting separate bilateral maritime exercises with the British and Russian navies to strengthen operational coordination, interoperability and maritime security cooperation.
The Navy’s guided-missile stealth frigate INS Trishul has arrived at Plymouth in the United Kingdom to participate in Exercise Konkan-26 with the Royal Navy.
The exercise, being conducted from October 8 to 15, comprises harbour and sea phases.
The harbour phase includes professional interactions, cross-deck visits, sporting events, cultural programmes and visits by members of the public to the ship.
The sea phase will involve complex maritime drills covering air, surface and sub-surface operations.
These include cross-deck helicopter landings, firing exercises, air defence drills, seamanship manoeuvres and anti-submarine warfare operations.
The annual India-UK exercise has expanded in scale and complexity over the years, strengthening coordination and mutual understanding between the two navies.
Meanwhile, INS Sahyadri arrived at Vladivostok in Russia on Saturday to participate in Exercise Indra-2026, scheduled from October 13 to 18.
The bilateral exercise with the Russian Navy will feature professional engagements during the harbour phase, followed by coordinated operations at sea.
The exercise is aimed at improving operational coordination, maritime interoperability and mutual understanding between the two navies.
The deployment is in line with India’s MAHASAGAR vision — Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions — and builds on the longstanding defence and maritime partnership between India and Russia.
It also seeks to carry forward cooperation following the 23rd India-Russia Annual Summit held in December 2025.
The exercises will provide opportunities for naval personnel to exchange professional expertise and strengthen cooperation in maritime operations, the Navy said.
