Moong Dal Halwa Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup yellow split moong dal (soaked for 4-5 hours)
  • ½ cup ghee
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom powder
  • A pinch of saffron (optional)
  • Chopped nuts for garnish (cashews, almonds, pistachios)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Moong Dal:
    • Drain the soaked moong dal and blend it into a coarse paste, adding a little water if necessary.
  2. Cook the Dal:
    • In a heavy-bottomed pan, heat ghee over medium heat. Add the moong dal paste and sauté for about 15-20 minutes, stirring continuously until it turns golden brown and aromatic.
  3. Add Milk and Sugar:
    • Pour in the milk gradually while stirring. Then add sugar and mix well. Cook until the mixture thickens and starts to leave the sides of the pan.
  4. Flavor and Garnish:
    • Stir in cardamom powder and saffron (if using). Cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  5. Serve:
    • Garnish with chopped nuts and serve warm.
