Footballing icon Cristiano Ronaldo is now a married man after swapping vows with long-term partner Georgina Rodríguez at their home in Portugal in front of their children

Cristiano Ronaldo wore a T-shirt to get married to his wife, Georgina Rodríguez, at their home wedding this week. Details of the big day have emerged after a glossy fashion magazine was granted rights to their ceremony.

Billionaire footballer Ronaldo, 41, and 32-year-old former shop assistant Georgina met in 2016 and decided to say “I do” exactly a decade later. The happy couple are proud parents to nine-year-old twins Eva Maria and Mateo Ronaldo, eight-year-old Alana Martina, and four-year-old Bella Esmeralda.

Ronaldo is also the father of 16-year-old son Cristiano Jr., whom he welcomed years before meeting his now-wife. Reports had suggested that Ronaldo and Georgina would indulge in a lavish wedding ceremony – but now it has been revealed that the couple swapped vows at home in front of their children.

Opening up to Vogue magazine, Georgina explained: “We’ve chosen to do it in the living room of our house here, where we have breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and where we live the reality of our lives.

“In 30 years’ time, I want the children to think, something wonderful happened at this table – the wedding vows of our parents.” The model added: “When I was a little girl, I dreamt of the biggest castle, the biggest carriage, the longest dress, a crown full of diamonds. And now I’m saying: no. I want something intimate, with my partner and our children, at home.”

Vogue uncovered other details of the big day – including the fact that the bride wore Gucci – with a sheer white shirt, white skirt, satin shoes, and added sparkles by adorning diamond jewellery from Chopard. Ronaldo, meanwhile, looked casual yet sharp in a white t-shirt and ivory coloured suit.

They married at their home in Portugal on Tuesday, then drove an hour to the Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima, where they received a blessing from a priest. The couple forwent a honeymoon and instead flew back to Saudi Arabia, where the footballer plays for Al-Nassr.

Ronaldo’s spokesperson confirmed their marriage on Tuesday, saying: “Cristiano Ronaldo and Georgina Rodriguez were married today in a civil ceremony in Cascais, Portugal, and are now officially husband and wife. The ceremony was a private and intimate moment attended by their five children.”

A copy of the couple’s marriage certificate was published by Jornal de Noticias on Thursday, where it was noted that there were just four witnesses at the wedding, confirming the low-key nature of the event. It has been reported that Ronaldo’s beloved mother, Dolores Aveiro, and his siblings, Hugo, Elma and Katia, were not present.

And local news in Portugal has suggested the family only discovered they were getting married moments before they swapped vows. The sporting icon has previously opened up about how becoming a father has changed him. He said: “Being a father is a unique and personal journey, something that has changed me completely. It’s taught me things about love that I never knew existed.

“It has softened me and given me a different perspective on what is really important in my life.”

The football star also previously shared his concerns for his mother, who said she had to take tranquilisers before watching him play major sporting events. Confirming the news, Ronaldo said on the Jonathan Ross show back in 2015: “I just make a rule, big games she cannot watch. It’s true, I don’t take her to my box, or I put someone in the home to go and walk with her when the game starts. It’s the solution.”

He added: “I understand my family cannot deal [with it] because it’s difficult when press start to speak on television all the time… They always speak about the same thing and if you watch TV you become more anxious, more nervous and I avoid all of that because I don’t watch TV, I don’t read newspapers, so I live comfortable, I just live my life comfortably, just training hard, playing better as much as I can and it’s good. I don’t have pressure.”
