A stunning two-bedroom house which used to be home to Madonna and Guy Ritchie and also appeared in the Daniel Craig film Layer Cake is available to rent. Queen’s Gate Mews, in South Kensington, was home to the power couple in the late 90s and early 200s.
It is over two storeys, with an ‘eclectic, warm-toned open plan space’ interior. The 1,540 square foot home was built in the 1860s by William Jackson. Queen’s Gate Mews survived a bomb strike in World War 2 and now forms part of the Queen’s Gate Conservation Area.
Film buffs might recognise the cobbled courtyard from a number of films. That is because it appears in Nicolas Roeg and Donald Cammell’s Performance (1970) and in The Bank Job (2008), starring Jason Statham, as well as 2004’s Layer Cake directed by Ritchie’s friend Matthew Vaughn.
The houses are among some of the most desirable in London these days, with this house in particular situated opposite a pub. Many of them were built in the 18th century as quarters for servants and stables for the grand townhouses they served.
It is also understood that Ritchie himself designed the kitchen inside the home, which also features a library area, a dining area for six, and a dedicated office space.
That leads to the two bedrooms, with the light-filled principal bedroom suite offering white walls, light wooden flooring, and a navy-blue velvet headboard and divan.
