Chinese imaging technology company Insta360 has opened its first flagship retail store outside Asia in New York City, US, as it expands its physical retail presence internationally.

According to Insta360, the Times Square location is designed to give customers access to the company’s 360, action, gimbal and wearable cameras, as well as technical support and product education.

The opening comes after the business said it had shipped more than ten million cameras worldwide, and the introduction of a flagship store in Tokyo, Japan, in August.

Insta360 said it entered the US market in 2016.

The company also operates authorised stores in several Asian markets and has outlined plans to expand its physical retail network into Europe, including Munich, Germany.

Insta360 marketing co-founder and vice-president Max Richter said: “Reaching ten million cameras shipped worldwide is a milestone we owe to our community, but opening in Times Square is about building lasting roots.

“This store opening is about more than just selling into the US; it reflects our long-term commitment to the American creator ecosystem. We look forward to continuing our support for local creators, connecting directly with everyday users, and making innovative imaging tech approachable for anyone with a story to tell.”

Elsewhere in the US retail sector, Toys ‘R’ Us said earlier this month that it would add 120 standalone stores to its US network in the coming months through a partnership with Go! Retail Group.

US retail sales have also recently recorded strong growth. Retail and food service sales increased 1.2% in August to $773.9bn, according to recently released data, marking the strongest monthly rise since March and exceeding economists’ expectations.

The data was released shortly before the US Federal Reserve’s first rate rise since 2023, adding a fresh consideration for consumer demand and retailers’ sales performance.
