In a joint operation, sleuths of Sultan Bazaar and Khairatabad police on Wednesday arrested an interstate offender involved in eight attention‑diversion cases and froze ₹2.40 lakh in his account.

The accused, Intipalli Rama Rao alias Sriram, 31, specifically targeted people at ATM cash‑deposit machines, particularly SBI ATMs in the twin cities. He approached victims in a friendly manner, gained their confidence, and convinced them to transfer equivalent sums via NEFT. He then sent fake transaction messages, claiming the money would reflect within an hour, collected cash, and fled, said DCP Khairatabad zone K. Shilpavalli.

On April 22, around 8 pm, Rama Rao attempted to dupe A. Sunitha of ₹1 lakh. When her deposit failed, an unknown man offered to transfer the amount from his NEFT account. He showed a fake message, but when Sunitha did not receive confirmation, she grew suspicious and lodged a complaint with Sultan Bazar police.

Special teams inspected CCTV footage near SBI Koti and surrounding areas, traced the accused, and apprehended him while he was targeting another victim near Indian Bank ATM, Narayanguda.

During interrogation, Rama Rao admitted to similar offences under Malakpet, Jeedimetla, Bowenpally, Karimnagar, Miyapur, and Sultan Bazar police limits.

He was produced before court and remanded in judicial custody.
