Hyderabad:The Telangana government’s decision to accept 32 demands of the Telangana Road Transport Corporation (TGRTC) employees and restore trade unions has drawn strong support from labour groups, who described it as a long-pending corrective step.
All India Indian National Trade Union Congress (Intuc) president Dr G. Sanjeeva Reddy said the move had restored confidence among RTC staff and upheld workers’ rights. “The restoration of trade unions is a long-overdue step that strengthens democratic values and protects workers’ fundamental rights,” he said.
He said the decision addressed issues raised by the Staff and Workers’ Union and the Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC), and reflected a people-centric approach to governance.
Sanjeeva Reddy also criticised the previous BRS government, alleging that trade unions were banned and the 2017 and 2021 Pay Revision Commissions were withheld, causing prolonged hardship to employees.
Calling the decision a step towards Praja Palana, he said INTUC would continue to work with the government to promote labour welfare and industrial harmony.
Union leaders Raj Reddy, Jakkula Mallesham, Abraham and R.D. Chandra Shekar also welcomed the decision and termed it timely.
