Situated 12 floors above the highest point of Brunswick Street, Iris boasts imposing views of the apartments and office buildings that line Adelaide, Queen and Eagle Streets, right around to the ranges in the west and all the way out to Moreton Island in the east. It’s eye-popping stuff but perhaps head up before sundown to make the most of it, and to avoid the crowds that can make the venue a tighter squeeze late at night.

Booze is all about cocktails, with a menu curated by former Australian Bartender of the Year runner-up Liam Shephard. It’s fuelled by an enormous backbar with long lists of gin, whisky, and tequila and mezcal. There’s also a hefty globe-trotting wine list and five beers on tap.

Iris is a Ghanem Group venue (Donna Chang, Blackbird et al.) so its Spanish-inspired food menu isn’t an afterthought. Dishes include fried zucchini blossoms with whipped ricotta dip; grilled tiger prawns with garlic and pimento pepper dressing; and a seafood paella finished with Australian Bay lobster, shellfish and chorizo.
