New Delhi: Israeli envoy Reuven Azar on Monday said his country “does not trust Pakistan” in the West Asian peace process, alleging that it has made “anti-semitic” remarks at intervals.

Speaking to reporters, he questioned the possibility of Pakistan joining the Abraham Accords, stating that it denies Israel’s right to exist in the region.

Pakistan has been attempting to broker peace between Iran and the United States with the backing of the Trump administration, but has not succeeded in securing a comprehensive agreement even as military skirmishes between Washington and Tehran continue.

At an event in the national capital, Mr Azar described India as a major global economic power and referred to opportunities arising from cooperation between India and Israel, in an apparent reference to the India-Middle East-Europe (IMEC) corridor.

Referring to the situation in West Asia, he said Israel continued to face attacks from the Lebanon-based Hezbollah and outlined that Israel was exercising its right to defend itself. He also pointed to ongoing diplomatic engagement between Israel and Lebanon, and said Lebanon should act to resist Hezbollah and prevent it from pursuing its agenda from its territory.
