Non-league club Flixton have been forced to deny rumours they are set to sign former Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho on social media.
Sancho, 26, left Man Utd upon the expiry of his contract this summer and is yet to find a new club, and was subsequently pictured training with 10th-tier Flixton in the North West Counties Division.
Rumours, albeit far-fetched rumours, circulated that he may be set to drop down to the non-league side, forcing them to play down the links to the once £73million player.
“To clarify, Jadon was not on trial with the club and was not involved in any transfer discussions,” Flixton wrote in a statement on Instagram.
“He simply used our facilities for a private training session to maintain his fitness while preparing for the next chapter of his career.”
What next for Sancho?
After falling out with manager Erik ten Hag three years ago at Old Trafford, Sancho has spent time on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea and Aston Villa, but has failed to make enough of an impact to convince any to sign him permanently.
That said, Sancho enjoyed some success at all three of those loan spells, reaching the Champions League final with Dortmund, before scoring in the final as Chelsea won the Conference League in 2025.
He was then part of the Villa team who won the Europa League in May, coming on in the final as Unai Emery’s men beat Freiburg.
As a free transfer, Sancho will surely not be without a club before long, with a switch to Europe or the Middle East believed to be his next potential options.
He certainly has the backing of Flixton to resurrect his career, with the Greater Manchester club speaking glowingly of the England international for his behaviour while using their facilities.
They added: “After completing his session, he happily met with young supporters, posed for photos, signed autographs, and left a lasting impression on everyone who had the pleasure of meeting him.
“Jadon is a world-class footballer who has achieved more in the game than most players could ever dream of.
“He deserves respect both his accomplishments and the way he conducted himself during his visit, not the unwarranted criticism that has followed.”
