Jadran Herceg Novi lived up to its status as the favorite in the first game of the Montenegrin League playoff finals, recording a convincing victory, even though it didn’t perform well on defense.
Jadran beat Budva 23:16.
Both teams’ defenses were weak in the first quarter, which saw 15 goals. Jadran took a 4:1 lead after less than three minutes, but Budva managed to cut its deficit and trailed 7:8 at the first break. However, any hopes among Budva supporters of another upset — after the team’s semifinal victory over Primorac — quickly faded in the second quarter. Jadran tightened its defense and quickly jumped to 11:7. By halftime, the hosts built a comfortable 14:8 lead . In the second half, the difference never dropped below six goals, and Jadran had an 8-goal lead on several occasions.
Primorac, the 1st-placed team in the regular season, defeated Buducnost 19:13 in the first match of the bronze-medal playoffs.
Each series will continue until one team reaches three wins.
