Jalen Hurts has set the A.J. Brown record straight from his point of view.
When speaking to the media Wednesday, the Eagles quarterback ensured there is no hostility towards his teammate and longtime friend despite not being in attendance for Brown’s wedding to wife Kelsey Riley on May 18.
“Nothing’s changed since we last spoke at the end of the season,” Hurts said. “We’re really good, and I saw how beautiful the pictures came out at his wedding. I’m very happy for him, and his wife and his family, and it’s a beautiful thing to step into the Covenant. So I was very excited and congratulatory towards that.”
It remains unclear if Hurts received an invite for the ceremony at Montage Laguna Beach in California.
However, it would seem odd if the Super Bowl champ didn’t find one in the mail, as the two have been teammates the last four years and have known one another since college playing days in the SEC — Hurts for Alabama and Brown fro Ole Miss.
Hurts is also the godfather to Brown’s daughter, Jersee.
TMZ previously reported no Eagles teammates made the trip to the wedding and it’s unkown whether any teammates received invitations.
However, former teammate Darius Slay, who retired in March, was in attendance.
It raises questions as Brown’s future with Philadelphia remains uncertain.
The three-time Pro Bowler has been rumored to potentially be on his way out as early as June 1 when NFL contracts become more flexible through free agency and trades.
The rumors were sparked by Brown’s public comments about his unhappiness with his role for the Eagles, especially when it came to a lack of targets during games.
Hurts was asked Wednesday about the potential movement of Brown and how that would affect the offense. In a funny moment, he took a sip of water during the question, which led to an awkward silence.
“Picked the right question to sip on, huh?”
“I think for us, we are focused on learning the offense. It really doesn’t change in terms of our approach to improve. There’s an ‘if’ — obviously, it’s been a lingering thing. But nothing can replace all the greatness that we achieved together,” he said.
The Eagles won the NFC East last year, but went on to lose to the 49ers in the first round of the playoffs. They finished 11-6.
