The producer of Peacock and ITV’s dating reality TV Show, Love Island USA, passed away, leaving everyone shocked. The news of his demise soon garnered immense attention, with fans wondering what had happened to the late producer. For the unversed, the news of his passing was shared by ITV America and Peacock in a statement on Monday, June 15, 2026 (ET).

However, James Barker passed away last week. While the date of his demise has not yet been revealed, tributes from all over the world have been pouring in. James Barker was the producer of Forged in Fire and Pawn Stars

James Barker was known as the producer of Love Island USA. However, before he joined the show, he contributed to several other projects, including Counting Cars, Forged in Fire, Pawn Stars, and Queer Eye, for Scout Productions, Sharp Entertainment, and Kinetic Content. According to his LinkedIn profile, James studied cinematography, film and video production at the New York Film Academy, and screenwriting at the Colorado Film School. Nonetheless, production wasn’t his only forte.

James also performed as a DJ for over 20 years under the name DJ Chaotic. He spoke about the same with Thotyssey earlier in January 2026, and revealed that it started out spinning at 18. Barker helped co-found a monthly Brooklyn-based party called Poppers, which he hosted “whenever young hot people” weren’t “making out in a villa on Peacock.”

James Barker joined the Love Island USA team in 2020

James Barker joined the Love Island USA production team during Season 2 of the much-loved series. However, it was in Season 6 that he rose through the ranks to executive producer. In a conversation with Thotyssey, James revealed that his favourite part about being a part of the show was “obviously” working on the soundtrack that accompanied all the drama. He was quoted as saying:

“We air six nights a week in real time, so what we shoot on a Monday airs on a Tuesday. There’s a lot that goes into editing a show in that time, and we have a huge crew that makes it happen in such a short amount of time.”

James Barker passed away in June 2026

The producer of Love Island USA passed away last week. While the exact date of his passing was not shared by ITV or Peacock, it was shared that he died after a medical emergency. According to reports, during production on Love Island’s eighth season in Fiji, James Barker died “after suffering an unexpected medical emergency.” The producer was 40 years old at the time of his death. His partner, Adam Roth, spoke to PEOPLE and revealed that he was “so proud” of his partner’s work and “that he was surrounded by such an amazing team.” That team honoured James in an episode of Love Island USA, which will air on June 16, 2026, according to a statement from ITV America and Peacock.

What happened to James Barker?

In the statement, Peacock and ITV America revealed that James Barker has suffered a medical emergency during the production of Love Island USA Season 8 in Fiji. However, his exact cause of death has not been released. Additionally, the specifics of the medical emergency are also unclear. A part of the statement by the two broadcasters could be read as:

“He was a beloved and greatly valued member of our collective family whose kindness, talent and dedication left an indelible mark on all of us and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with him. We extend our heartfelt condolences to James’ family, friends and colleagues.”
