James Haskell has claimed he ‘didn’t know’ ex Chloe Madeley’s parents were Richard and Judy and thought she was ‘into kinky sh**’ when he saw a photo on the wall
James Haskell has hilariously revealed that he “didn’t know” who Chloe Madeley ‘s parents were and therefore thought she was “into kinky sh**” when he saw a picture of Richard Madeley on the wall.
The former England rugby star, 41, and Chloe, 38, were married from 2018 to 2023, but started dating in 2014. He revealed that early on in their relationship – during their first date, in fact – he came to realise that she was the daughter of TV icons Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan in quite a funny way.
He said on the No Parental Guidance podcast: “I didn’t know Chloe was their daughter until I went on a first date with her, it was the first night that we spent together. And she took me back to her parents’ house but they weren’t in. And I didn’t really ask if she was in her parents’ house.”
James added that he left the bedroom and came face to face with Richard. Or a picture of him at least: “Anyway I remember woke up in the night to go for a p**s and there was a picture of Rich on the wall.
“I thought Chloe’s into a bit of kinky sh**. I was like, I don’t look anything like that guy, I’m not that type. He’s tall, dark and handsome. I was like, this isn’t going to last, is it?”
He decided to quiz Chloe on the picture, asking her why she had a picture of Richard Madeley on the wall. “She went ‘It’s my dad’,” James said. “And I was like, okay, fancy another s**g?”
Richard and Judy were one the UK’s most popular TV presenting duos, and hosted ITV’s This Morning together from 1988 to 2001. Richard now appears on Good Morning Britain as one of the presenters.
James also told the No Parental Guidance podcast that he grew up familiar with who Richard and Judy were, lauding their presenting abilities and describing them as “TV royalty”, as he disclosed they were “always really nice” to him.
James said: “And I think it’s always hard when someone like me knocks on your door and comes in. Cos they’re quite academic, the family. They’re not…you know, they’re not massive sports fans and stuff.”
On the podcast, James also opened up about his split from Chloe. He insisted that there was nothing “nefarious” about their breakup and that they split “because we didn’t get on anymore”. The rugby star also praised Chloe for making him a “much better person”.
Before they broke up, James and Chloe had a daughter called Bodhi, who was born in August 2022. James told the podcast that he and Chloe co-parent “constructively”.
He said: “We’re able to co-parent in a way, sometimes is good, sometimes is bad, that’s what happens. But we do it constructively for our daughter.”
