Malhotra described chiffon as “a fabric I love the most,” tracing its cinematic associations from song sequences shot in Switzerland to his current couture collections. Over his 35-year trajectory, the designer has consistently elevated chiffon, from the sequinned sheet saris to intricately embroidered couture drapes. Kapoor’s chiffon sari is a stripped-back form. While it has no surface ornamentation, the styling gave her look an edge. She wore it with a complementary dupatta, featuring its own fringe hem, mirroring the pallu’s. “2026 is the year of the drape worldwide inspired by our Indian dupatta,” added Malhotra.

Her accessories, too, hit the right notes. Stud earrings and a ring from Jet Gems, set with diamonds and tanzanite, kept the jewellery close to the sari’s cool mood, with a ruby and sapphire bracelet by Golecha’s Jewels introducing a jewel-toned counterpoint. Hair was swept into a sleek, high ponytail and makeup was high-shine with a nude gloss, a sweep of metallic eyeshadow and highlighter.
