An ESPN reporter won’t be seen around the NFL for the foreseeable future.
On Sunday night, Buccaneers reporter Jenna Laine announced she will be stepping away from her beat due to “medical stuff” that has left her feeling “knocked down.”
“Was inactive today, and will be for a bit. Have had to do some medical stuff,” she wrote on X. “Next week is the anniversary of my back surgery and I’m honestly just really tired of feeling knocked down. Didn’t even want to say anything. But that’s where we are. Love y’all 🫶”
Fans and colleagues reacted with concerns and well wishes on social media.
Ira Kaufman, Pro Football Hall of Famer and NFL columnist, reposted Laine’s announcement and commented “Lot of us concerned about You this past week” on X.
“Jenna – I’m so sorry to hear this. I’m thinking of you and sending you strength,” Fox 9 anchor and Vikings postgame show host commented. “I’ve had 2 serious back injuries in the past & know how the entire toll can hit. You’ve got this… but in the interim when things are heavy like this – please know people are in your corner.”
ESPN’s Seth Wickersham added, “Hope you feel better soon.”
Laine has not shared another update, only adding a tweet about Lions’ Jack Campbell’s scary neck injury on Sunday night.
Laine, 41, has been with the Worldwide Leaders since 2016, joining as the Buccaneers beat reporter in addition to appearing on ESPN Radio and television programs.
She went viral earlier in August when a video of coach Todd Bowles asking a female reporter to lunch was shared on X, which added “Have we learned nothing?” months after the Mike Vrabel-Diana Russini scandal.
Laine identified herself as the reporter and backed Bowlse, who she said has “always treated me with the utmost respect” and regularly has “playful banter” with beat reporters.

Previously, she covered the team for SportsTalkFlorida.com while also hosting “Sports Talk Florida” in the afternoon for Sports Talk 1040 AM in Tampa.
She also had a morning show on 1040’s sister station, AM 820 News, as well as an evening talk show with 1010 CBS Sports.
A St. Petersburg native, Laine graduated from the University of South Florida’s school of communications where she was the radio sideline reporter for football and a Bucs TV correspondent for Fox Sports 1 in 2014.
