Former Top Gear presenter Jeremy Clarkson shared details of a recent trip to Italy with his partner Lisa Hogan as he “ignored” two of his long-suffering partner’s requests
TV star Jeremy Clarkson joked that his partner Lisa Hogan was “the most annoying thing” in his car on a recent foreign trip. The pair jetted off to Italy but Lisa apparently got on the wrong side of the former Top Gear host as he “ignored” two of her requests.
Jeremy and Lisa headed to Italy for a friend’s wedding with a bit of sightseeing thrown in. The petrolhead, 66, was keen to hire a Fiat Panda to navigate the narrow streets of Puglia, but his PA instead booked a Ferrari supercar.
Driving the 296 Speciale A, which he described as “hyper bonkers”, Clarkson ran into a number of issues. First of all, it beeped whenever he went over the speed limit – which he said he fully intended to do “because everyone in southern Italy” does it.
He also found it difficult to work the sat nav. There are also some technical issues he had to overcome.
Writing in his Sunday Times column, Clarkson said: “The turning circle is woeful, the roof clunks when you put it down, and so does the suspension when you go over a bump.
“Then there’s the drive line, which features a twin-turbo 3.0-litre V6 engine and an electrical motor that work together to provide the power.”
It seemed his long-suffering partner Lisa, who also made the trip with him, had her own issues with the car. She had two simple requests for the TV presenter – both of which were promptly rejected.
Clarkson continued: “The most annoying thing in the car, though, was Lisa. We were in the Italian sunshine, in a Ferrari convertible, and she only ever said two things: ‘Slow down,’ and ‘Can you put the roof up?’ The answer to both things was ‘No.'”
Clarkson, meanwhile, claimed that he is “quite well known in Italy” as there is a television channel in the country which “only shows old Top Gear episodes”.
It comes after Clarkson refused to quit alcohol despite his recent health scares. The Clarkson’s Farm star said “there has to be some joy in life”.
The TV presenter has faced a number of health issues in recent years. In 2024 he was rushed to hospital for an emergency heart operation where he had two stents fitted. Then he was diagnosed with prostate cancer, which was caught during a routine medical check in May 2025.
However, there are some parts of Clarkson’s lifestyle that he considers sacred. Writing in The Times, he said: “Sure, I can eat less and more healthily. I can become a herbivore. And yes, I can go for 20-mile hikes and do 20,000 steps a day. But the truth is, there has to be some joy in life as well.
“And not drinking and not eating a pork chop means that there is less joy in life – and I haven’t worked my a*** off for 40 years to have no joy in my old age. So, I’m having joy in my old age.”
