Nicole ‘Snooki’ Polizzi has announced that she’s cancer-free, seven months after being diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer. The Jersey Shore legend, 38, confirmed that she had undergone a hysterectomy.
The TV star has now shared that she is on the “other side,” seven months after her devastating diagnosis. However, she is still in recovery from the major surgery. She previously told fans that she had her uterus, cervix, fallopian tubes and some part of her vagina removed. But said she has kept her ovaries: “So I don’t go into premenopause.”
Despite this, Snooki, who shot to fame on the MTV series, said that she’s now “happy” and “starting to feel better.” In a new interview, she said: “As of right now, I am cancer-free.”
Speaking to People magazine, Nicole went on to add: “They got everything out. So I’m definitely happy that I did it.” She added: “I avoided getting my pap smear for a long time. And once I finally went to the doctors, I feel like it’s just been week after week of doing a procedure, then another procedure, and then a hysterectomy. So it’s been a journey and a long road, but I’m happy that I’m on the other side of it and everything is going good.”
However, she went on to explain that she’s still trying to listen to her body and give it “grace”. “There’’s days where I do too much and then I just feel exhausted and I start getting pains,” she said.
The TV star said that despite her recovery, she feels as though she’s almost back to her regular self. However, she is also aware that her cancer could return, meaning she has to undergo regular pap smears every three months.
Before undergoing her hysterectomy, she said on social media: “Sorry, it’s just been a lot, just dealing with all that pain, it’s not great. But I’m doing my best and trying to stay optimistic.”
“So the first couple of days is hell, and then it’s gonna get better,” she said of her recovery. “I’m trying to stay in good spirits, and the nurses and doctors and everybody was so great.”
In a TikTok video in February, Snooki revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer after she had irregular smear tests, a procedure that screens women for cervical cancer.
She said: “Obviously not the news that I was hoping for. But also not the worst news, just because they caught it so early. That’s why I’m literally telling you guys to get your Pap smears done.
“I’m 38 years old. I’ve been struggling with abnormal Pap smears for like, three, four years now. And now look at me, and instead of just, like, putting it off because I didn’t want to go, and it hurt and I was scared, no, I just went and did it, [and] cancer’s in there, and it’s only stage I and it’s curable.”
