Jo Wood has broken her silence on stepson Jesse Wood’s baby news and revealed just how she found out her stepson was to become a father following his split from Fearne Cotton

Jo Wood has broken her silence on stepson Jesse Wood’s baby news with his reality TV star girlfriend following his split from Fearne Cotton, his wife of 10 years.

The former model, 71, who helped raise Jesse during her 26-year marriage to Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, is the first family member to comment on Jesse’s announcement that Gemma Gregory, 40, is pregnant with their first child.

Speaking exclusively to The Mirror, Jo revealed how she found out – and what she really thinks of former Made in Chelsea star Gemma. “I’m very excited. It’s great. I’m really happy for them. Gemma is lovely and a really nice woman,” Jo said. “Jesse texted me: ‘Jo, I’ve got some great news…’ I thought, woohoo! Wonderful!”

Musician Jesse, 49, and Gemma announced earlier this month that they are expecting a baby together, 16 months after his split from TV presenter Fearne, 44. But Jo insisted there is always hope for happiness, no matter what challenges life throws up.

“Gemma makes Jesse happy,” she added. “There’s always hope – no matter what happens in life, you can never give up. See, I’m still here, still searching for Mr. Right.”

Jo, who got divorced from Ronnie, 78, in 2011 after his affair with 20-year-old waitress Ekaterina Ivanova, added: “She’ll be a great mum. And she’s good with Jesse’s kids as well. Gosh, I’ve got plenty of blended families in my family.”

Jesse shares son Rex, 12, and daughter Honey, nine, with Fearne, as well as two adult children – Arthur and Lola – from his first marriage to Katherine ‘Tilly’ Boone, 52. Gemma also has an 11-year-old son from a previous relationship.

Speaking at the launch of the audiobook for her debut novel, The Resurrection of Flo – a heartwarming story about life after divorce – Jo also revealed Jesse and Fearne are successfully co-parenting following their split.

“They’re good. They’ve got it all sussed. They’re all happy. There’s no bitterness or anything like that. They’re all good,” she said. Jesse went public with his relationship with Gemma last April, with the couple announcing their pregnancy on Instagram earlier this month. Gemma shared a photo of her blossoming baby bump in a crop top in a shot captioned “incoming”, before sharing another sweet snap with Jesse captioned “made by these muppets”.

Gemma, the daughter of actor Paul Gregory, appeared in early episodes of Made In Chelsea and has also worked as an actress and model. The baby news comes after Jesse opened up about his financial struggles during a court appearance in January on a speeding charge. The musician told magistrates he was living on barely £1,000 a month and struggling for work since the breakdown of his marriage to Fearne. “I was due to be employed in 2024 but it got delayed,” he told the court. “At the moment I’m living off my savings and I am looking to get employment.”

Fearne has since moved on romantically with TV director Elliot Hegarty, who is ten years her senior. She addressed the split during an appearance on Lorraine last March, saying: “It’s all very amicable and the kids are doing great. I am in a very good place.”

At Jo’s launch party – held at Fitzrovia Studios in North London and sponsored by Apres Provence Rosé and Jukes’ non-alcoholic wine – she also spoke candidly about the importance of staying hopeful in love.

“They say it’s the search that is the most interesting thing, because once you’ve got whatever you wanted, you’ve got it now. It’s [about] the progress to it,” she said.

Jo also revealed she’s already started writing a sequel called Only Flo, which is 30,000 words in and planned for release next year. “It’s a continuation [of the first book]. What I want to do is put lessons in it that will help other women,” she said.

“I find that women as they get older feel that they aren’t appreciated. It’s an older woman that carries all the knowledge of her life that she can share with everybody.”
