John Torode posted an emotional tribute to his wife, Lisa Faulkner, after she shared a heartfelt birthday tribute to him following personal set back that have affected them both
John Torode showered his wife Lisa Faulkner with love as she wished him a happy birthday in the wake of revealing her cancer diagnosis. The former MasterChef judge, 61, has been married to TV star Lisa, 54, since 2019.
This week, John celebrated his latest birthday – which Lisa marked with a heartfelt message on social media. Taking to Instagram, the Missing You actress shared a photo of her and John smiling towards the camera.
The couple complemented each other with their style – both wearing white tops, although Lisa’s included brightly coloured features. She added an emotional message alongside the image – where she branded John her “best friend” and acknowledged the difficult times they have both endured in recent months.
Lisa wrote: “Happy Birthday to my wonderful husband @johntorodecooks I hope you have the best day my best friend. What a year it’s been but we held each others hands and I couldn’t have got through these past few months without you by my side.”
She continued: “You are the kindest man with the gentlest biggest heart and you make my heart thump… I look forward to a birthday coffee in our spot in the garden I love you my Johno and so does Rory.”
Clearly moved, John responded to the post with a dedication of his own, writing: “And I love and adore you.” The former TV judge added a red heart emoji to the brief message.
Earlier this month, Lisa shared news with fans that she had been diagnosed with early‑stage breast cancer. Doctors discovered the disease during a routine mammogram – and she underwent surgery to have the cancer removed.
Following the announcement of her diagnosis, Lisa was met with a wall of support – and she issued a further statement to thank those that had sent her messages of encouragement. She said: “Thank you for all of your support and your lovely messages. I promise I will read every word. So many of you going through this or know someone who is.”
She added: “Your love and kindness has really touched me and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.” She previously issued an online message where she gave insight into her cancer battle.
Speaking in a video posted to Instagram, she shared: “I just wanted to come on because I know I’ve been quiet on here. The reason being, that I’ve had to have surgery because I’ve had the very early stages of breast cancer. I had surgery two weeks ago and it was quite a big op. But it’s all good and I’ve had my results back and they’ve got everything out so it’s all clear and I just need now to have some radiotherapy in a few weeks.
“I just wanted to say I’ve got a bit of healing to do but I’m good, I’m well and feeling so much better and I’m so grateful that I went for my mammogram. Don’t put them off – go! They found this, and without that mammogram, it wouldn’t have been picked up. And I want to say thank you to our wonderful NHS and the fact that we can have these mammograms, get treatment early and treated quickly. I will see you all soon.”
John has had a troubling year himself – having been sacked from MasterChef following accusations of inappropriate behaviour on the set of the hit BBC show. Although he lost his job for the alleged incident – which involved racist language – the BBC decided to press ahead with airing Christmas special episodes that featured him, while John stated he did not recall the incident in question.
A BBC spokesperson said at the time of John’s sacking in October last year: “[Production company] Banijay UK has consulted the celebrities, contestants and guests featured and all have confirmed that they are happy for the shows to be aired.
“As we have said previously, these are not straightforward decisions. We have approached this with care and consideration for all involved and we appreciate not everyone will agree with us.”
