Country singer Jon Pardi brought the party in Newcastle as the stateside star belted out a number of his biggest hits to an enthusiastic audience on his Honkytonk Hollywood UK tour

Country music fans were keen Tequila Little Time with Jon Pardi in a bustling Newcastle City Hall on Tuesday. The Honkytonk Hollywood UK tour has been doing the rounds and the singer-songwriter stopped off in the north east following a successful Highways Festival headline slot days earlier.

Pardi, who celebrated turning 41 with a show the following night in Glasgow, would’ve had a pre-birthday show to remember as he serenaded the Geordie faithful with his long list of hit records. From his latest number one in the UK Country Charts, Boots Off, to his past records such as Dirt On My Boots, Pardi gyrated his way through his impressive playlist.

And it was clear his tunes – and moves – were well reciprocated by concert goers around the 2,000 capacity venue singing along with the star. As Country music continues its rapid rise, there were cowboy hats and boots a plenty as the gleeful crowd happily joined in with hit after hit.

There was even time for one couple to cheekily ask him to perform at their wedding. As a compromise, Pardi performed their song request on the night, Head Over Boots, dedicating it to the happy couple and “all the love birds out there”.

Brilliantly showcasing his obvious talents, Pardi and his band went on to merge an iconic Bob Marley tune briefly into the set. But it was his own repertoire that got the fans on their feet and their arms swaying.

Midway through the evening, Pardi introduced his 2019 hit Starlight with a touching tribute to his grandmother before later launching what appeared to be beer holders into the crowd as he performed his hit featuring Thomas Rhett, Beer Can’t Fix.

His encore gave fans more bang for their buck, finishing the night in style, with a trio of tunes, including 2018’s Night Shift.

When I spoke to the singer in the weeks building up to the tour, he admitted he dreams of the “upper deck” moment and selling out big venues. With the crowd in Newcastle lapping up the records, it might not be long until he gets his wish in Blighty.

At least for this occasion though, his “upper deck” experience came thanks to a group of cheerful ladies grabbing his side-eye attention with their energetic love of all things Pardi. And he was keen to acknowledge them on a number of occasions to send them home with stories to tell.

It wasn’t just the Newcastle faithful that were up for a party, though. Pardi’s support act, Alyssa Flaherty, was also spotted busting a move in the crowd. She was clearly enjoying the night’s entertainment, and rightly so after she had perfectly built up the atmosphere for the main event.

A special mention must go to the rising star after her impeccable efforts to showcase her fantastic range of vocals. She would have definitely gained some new followers from this short performance – including this writer!

Her amazing rendition of Unchained Melody was a massive hit and had the crowd cheering loudly as she belted out the classic in her own unique way.

A nod must also go to Manchester’s Bec O’Malley who got the night off to a flier with his raspy vocals.

All in all, it’s safe to say it was certainly a fun Pardi time on the Tyne with Mr Saturday Night – on a Tuesday.
