Bayern Munich goalkeeper Jonas Urbig got to make his Germany debut on Thursday, keeping a clean sheet in their 2-0 victory over Serbia.

Speaking in a post-match interview, he revealed that former Germany No. 1 Manuel Neuer and fellow Bayern Munich teammate Sven Ulreich had both messaged him before the game.

“Manu and Ulle (Sven Ulreich) both texted me before the game and were happy that I was getting to make my debut. That made me happy,” Urbig said.

Despite the big achievement of playing his first game for his country, Urbig said he remained “relatively calm” and relaxed before the match.

“It’s different because of the national anthem. But no, I’m relatively calm and relaxed before the game. During the game, you don’t really think about it that much. There is no room for all the things going on around it,” he said.

Asked what the best part of the evening was, the Bayern shot-stopper replied:

“The way we performed as a team. We dominated the opponent from the first minute to the last. For me as a goalkeeper, keeping a clean sheet was particularly special.”
