Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho believes it will take three years to get his side playing at their best.
The Portuguese coach, who signed a three-year contract in the summer, was asked how long it would take to achieve perfection at the Santiago Bernabeu.
“Three years. Three seasons,” Mourinho replied.
His comments came ahead of Wednesday’s Champions League trip to AEK Athens, and he was also quizzed on his attacking options, with Vinicius Junior, Kylian Mbappe and Yan Diomande among those competing for places.
“You are also forgetting Brahim and Endrick. We have a lot of quality players here. For me, having a large number of players is never a problem,” he said.
The Madrid boss identified Vinicius as his most natural option on the left wing but stressed that several players could operate across different attacking positions.
Attention then turned to Wednesday’s trip to Greece, where Mourinho warned against underestimating AEK Athens.
“Greece is always difficult, and Real Madrid, the king of Europe, has achieved only one win in eight visits to Greece,” he explained.
“Every opponent that sees the white shirt in front of them is highly motivated.”
Mourinho added: “It is a match in which we must be at the peak of our concentration and readiness, and if we are not, we will not win.”
