Josh Allen is sick of the negative discourse around the Bills new jerseys.
The four-time Pro Bowler told fans to “stop hating” on Buffalo’s new “Nickel City” jerseys in an unprompted message during his news conference on Wednesday.
Allen’s comments come two days after the Bills released the jerseys, which feature an all-gray jersey and pants combination, to an avalanche of negative feedback on social media.
The Bills quarterback seemingly has an unpopular opinion, saying he’s excited to try them out in game.
“I enjoy them. I think it’s very symbolic of what we want to do and what we want to be,” Allen said after the Bills’ first practice of training camp. “I understand people want the old jerseys and the old helmets and all that.
“But at some point, too, we are moving forward. We have to move forward and do something new — and that’s what we’re doing.”
The “Nickel City” jerseys will be worn twice throughout the 2027 season, though the exact games haven’t been released.
The gray-based design on the jerseys mark the first time Buffalo will wear gray as their main color.
The Bills have previously used gray, in a silver-esque manner, on jerseys such as their first in the 1960 season and the “Cold Front” alternates from 2025.
That usage allowed the Bills to lean into it further in 2026, despite the NFL requiring teams to use colors in their current palette when designing alternate uniforms.
“Utilizing an existing brand color, we pull inspiration from the steel mills, grain elevators, and rail yards, which are foundational to our region’s place in history,” the Bills wrote about the color on X.
The Helmet features a blue-base and red logo, two colors more related to the Bills color scheme.
Regardless if folks like the uniforms or not, as Allen noted, they mark an era of change for Buffalo as they set to debut their new Highmark Stadium and new head coach Joe Brady in 2026.
“The vibe, the energy, it’s different,” Allen said. “I’m not saying it’s better [or] it’s worse. It’s different. And as a new head coach for a team, I think that’s a smart decision to make things different.
“This isn’t the same place, and you have to make it feel differently because doing the same thing, it obviously didn’t work. So, got to change it up and try to find new ways to make it work.”
