After a long, long time, it seems that the Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively drama has finally reached its end. For those unaware, the It Ends With Us co-stars have been grabbing headlines since December 2024 for being embroiled in a legal battle. Reports suggest that the conflicts between the duo began while filming Coleen Hoover’s adaptation, as they realised their creative differences. Additionally, things took a turn for the worse when Blake accused Justin of sexual harassment as well as fat shaming and intentional reputation damage. Now, it has been reported that Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively’s legal war is over for good.
Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively settle after a year-and-a-half-long legal battle
As per reports, Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively’s legal battle, which spanned over a year and a half, reached an end just weeks before the actors were scheduled to go to trial in New York City. A spokesperson for Wayfarer Studios confirmed to USA Today that Justin and Blake have agreed to settle the latter’s breach of contract retaliation lawsuit on May 4, 2026. Reportedly, both parties’ attorneys released a joint statement which read:
“The end product – the movie ‘It Ends With Us’ – is a source of pride to all of us who worked to bring it to life. Raising awareness, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of domestic violence survivors – and all survivors – is a goal that we stand behind.”
The statement further added that they acknowledge the process presented challenges and recognise that the concerns which were raised by Blake Lively deserved to be heard. They reiterated their firm commitment to workplaces free of improprieties and unproductive environments. They said, “It is our sincere hope that this brings closure and allows all involved to move forward constructively and in peace, including a respectful environment online.”
It is worth noting that the high-profile dispute involving Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively also ensnared other celebrities during its legal discovery process. A huge number of exhibits were unsealed in January 2026, some of which featured messages from Taylor Swift, Ben Affleck, Jenny Slate, Matt Damon, and Isabela Ferrer, among others.
Why were the majority of the allegations in Blake Lively’s lawsuit dismissed?
The news of Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni settling comes about a month after the US District Court Judge Lewis Leeman dismissed the majority of Blake’s legal claims on April 2, 2026. This includes the claims she made about sexual harassment, defamation, and invasion of privacy. The judge’s decision left Justin Baldoni’s side pretty happy, with his lawyers, Alexandra Shapiro and Jonathan Bach, saying, “What’s left is a significantly narrowed case, and we look forward to presenting our defence to the remaining claims in court.”

The reason that Blake’s sexual harassment claims were dismissed was due to an issue with jurisdiction and employment. Apparently, she had sued under California Law, while the alleged misconduct had taken place in their filming location of New Jersey. The judge noted that the facts of the case also “overwhelmingly point” to Blake being an independent contractor and not an employee. This means that she was not eligible to sue on the grounds of violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act.
For those unaware, only 13 of Blake’s claims were allowed by the judge to proceed to trial. This includes breach of contract, aiding and abetting in retaliation. The rest of Blake’s allegations referred to It Ends With Us Movie LLC (breach of agreement and retaliation), Wayfarer Studios (retaliation), in addition to The Agency Group PR LLC (aiding in retaliation) whom the actress has accused of organising an online campaign that cast her in a negative light.
