Kalaburagi: Five persons were killed in a head-on collision between a lorry and a cruiser vehicle on National Highway-150 near Halkatta in Chittapur taluk of Kalaburagi district shortly after Friday midnight.
According to police, eight members of a family from Ingalagi village had travelled to Yadgir city along with a paralysed relative to get him admitted to a hospital for treatment. While four family members stayed back at the hospital with the patient, the remaining four persons along with the driver began their return journey to Ingalagi at around 11.30 pm.
The accident occurred near Halkatta village around 12.30 am when the cruiser vehicle reportedly collided head-on with a lorry that was travelling from Gujarat towards Chennai. The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the death of all five occupants of the cruiser vehicle.
Police have identified the deceased as Mohammad Hussain, Tolu Pasha, Fatima, Rasoolabi, and Mahbub.
Police have seized both vehicles and registered a case. Further investigation is in progress.
Meanwhile, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister and Kalaburagi district in-charge minister Priyank Kharge expressed grief over the incident.
In a post on X, Kharge said he had spoken to the district police department regarding the accident and assured all necessary assistance to the bereaved families.
“I pray that the families are given the strength to bear the loss of their loved ones,” he said.
