The Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter has been neck-deep in controversy after multiple women filed sexual assault cases against him. While none of the accusations have been proven yet, it has drawn attention to the musician’s personal life. Amid ongoing lawsuits, actress Kaley Cuoco’s name has surfaced in the ongoing legal battle between Carter and former Dream singer Melissa Schuman.

Melissa Schuman Says She Confided in Kaley Cuoco After Alleged Incident
According to TMZ, which obtained a transcript of Schuman’s April 2026 deposition, the former Dream singer was questioned about whom she told about the alleged incident involving Carter.
Schuman alleges that Carter sexually assaulted her at his Santa Monica apartment in 2003, when she was 18, and the singer was 22. During her deposition, she testified that she confided in Cuoco on the final day of filming the movie The Hollow in April 2003. The film, released in 2004, featured Schuman, Cuoco and Carter.
Cuoco’s name gets dragged into the case as one of the people Schuman says she spoke to in the days following her alleged encounter with Nick. Schuman also testified that she received a text from Carter after returning to the film set. She claimed that he later called her and referred to her as a “manipulative bitch.”
The allegations date back more than two decades, but the dispute has continued through public statements and civil court proceedings. Schuman first made her allegations public in 2017 and filed a civil lawsuit against Carter in 2023. She previously reported the alleged incident to police, but prosecutors did not file criminal charges.
Nick Carter countersues Melissa Schuman for false allegations
Nick Carter has repeatedly maintained his innocence, insisting that Schuman’s allegations are false. He claims that their encounter was consensual and that her claims have damaged his reputation. In his lawsuit, the Backstreet Boys singer described her alleged actions as “intentional, malicious, oppressive and designed” to damage his career.
Carter’s attorney has also accused Schuman of attempting to smear the singer’s image and alleged that the accusations were part of an effort to pressure him into a financial settlement. His legal team further claimed that the allegations had affected his ability to earn a living and caused emotional distress to his wife, Lauren Kitt, and their three young children, Pearl, Saoirse Reign and Odin Reign.
In his defense, Carter has also submitted declarations from individuals who allegedly witnessed events that night and claimed they saw no wrongdoing. Schuman, however, continues to stand by her account, and the civil litigation remains ongoing.
Melissa Schuman is not the only woman to have brought allegations against the Backstreet Boys singer. American woman Shannon Ruth also filed a high-profile sexual battery lawsuit against Carter over an alleged incident on a tour bus in 2001, when she says she was 17. Ruth alleges that Carter sexually assaulted her after giving her a drink.
Carter has denied her claims, alleging that the accusations are all part of a coordinated effort against him. Ruth’s attorneys have reportedly asked a judge for permission to withdraw because of a breakdown in communication over fundamental issues in the case.
Carter has also pursued defamation claims against women who have accused him of sexual misconduct. He argues that the allegations have harmed his career, while the accusers maintain their accounts of the alleged incidents.
With Kaley Cuoco’s name being mentioned, the case has drawn renewed attention after Schuman said the actress knew about Nick’s alleged involvement in the sexual assault case. However, it doesn’t indicate Cuoco was in any way involved in the controversy. The actress, who recently welcomed her second child with her fiancé Tom Pelphrey, has not responded to Schuman’s claim about the alleged incident.
