KAKINADA: Former MP Chinta Mohan on Friday said he wanted a Kapu leader to become the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh and claimed that this would be possible only if the Congress came to power.
Addressing reporters in Kakinada, Mohan said the Congress would form the government in the 2029 Assembly elections and a Kapu leader would become the chief minister.
He said that although more than 75 years had passed since Independence and the state had seen several chief ministers, no Kapu leader had held the post. Referring to former chief minister Damodaram Sanjivayya, Mohan said successive governments had been led by leaders from other communities.
Claiming that many Kapus continued to face economic hardship, Mohan said the community should get an opportunity to lead the state for at least five to 10 years. He alleged that Andhra Pradesh had so far been ruled by leaders from the Reddy and Kamma communities.
Mohan also claimed that if Kapus and Scheduled Castes united politically, they could secure power in the state. He said Andhra Pradesh could witness a political shift similar to Tamil Nadu and added that the Kapu community should develop leadership qualities like late Mudragada Padmanabham.
