VIJAYAPURA: Patients usually return to hospitals for follow-up consultations or fresh ailments. Two weeks after undergoing a bipolar hemiarthroplasty procedure for a hip injury, 75-year-old Nabisab Pinjar returned to BLDE Hospital on Wednesday carrying rice and wheat sacks as a token of gratitude to the hospital that helped him walk again.
Accompanied by his daughter and grandson, the Gornal village resident approached Medical Superintendent Dr SN Bentur and orthopaedic surgeon Dr Girish Khodnapur with an unusual request — to accept rice and wheat to the hospital as a token of gratitude.
The visit has a small flashback.
Nabisab Pinjar had suffered a severe injury to his left hip after slipping and falling. Unable to walk, he was admitted to BLDE Hospital in Vijayapura.
Two weeks ago, a team led by orthopaedic surgeon Dr Girish Khodnapur, along with anaesthetist, performed a bipolar hemiarthroplasty procedure. The surgery was carried out free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat- Arogya Karnataka (ABARK) scheme. Following the successful operation, Nabisab returned to his village. The recovery was faster, and within a few days, he was able to walk comfortably again without the aid of a walking stick.
Nabisab was happy with this recovery, the service provided by the hospital, and the doctors and staff for their service.
Wanting to thank the doctors and hospital staff who helped him regain his mobility, Nabisab chose to express his gratitude in a way he felt was meaningful. During his stay at the hospital, he had noticed that free meals were served every day to patients in the general ward.
Believing his contribution could help that effort, he brought sacks of rice and wheat to donate to the hospital.
During his visit, Nabisab recalled the anxiety he felt before the surgery.
“At my age, I was worried whether I would ever be able to walk independently again. But the doctors gave me confidence and treated me well. Today, I can walk normally,” Nabisab said.
Dr Khodnapur said the gesture left him speechless.
“BLDE Institution President MB Patil and Chancellor BM Patil have always emphasised quality treatment for every patient. Such moments inspire us to continue serving with greater commitment,” he said.
Assistant Administrative Officer Eknath Jadhav was also present on the occasion.
The rice and wheat donated by Nabisab were later handed over to the hospital’s food distribution section.
