Kate Ferdinand gave her followers a sneak peek inside her stepson Tate’s lavish 18th birthday party as she shared snaps of the party on social media

Celebrations were in the air as Rio Ferdinand’s son Tate turned 18. The teen celebrated with his family with a lavish get together and step-mum Kate Ferdinand shared a selection of snaps from the shindig on her social media.

Taking to Instagram, Kate, 34, revealed the family had “a night for Tate”. She completed her caption with a champagne glass emoji.

The snaps showed Tate with family and friends, including former footballer dad Rio. The ex-Manchester United defender wore a waist coat with not top underneath and sunglasses, while Kate wore a pale pink dress.

The party took place by a pool and had a number of portraits of the family on show. There were also throwback snaps of Tate stuck in burgers for guests to grab – as well as sunglasses with Tate 18 on the lenses.

And the decorations included big light up letters to spell the birthday boy’s name and an array of candles. Sparklers were also on hand to get the party started.

Followers were quick to share their appreciation of the celebration in the comments section. One user said: “Love this guys. Looks like a great night had by all.”

And Lorenz Ferdinand beamed: “Unreal night,” with two love heart emojis. Kate replied: “The best.”

Kate is stepmum to Rio’s kids Lorenz, Tate, and Tia, who Rio shares with his late wife, Rebecca. Kate and Rio also share Cree and Shae.

Kate admitted last year that, happily, her stepkids have no problem if she calls herself their mum, instead of ‘Mummy Kate’. Speaking to the Happy Place podcast at the time, she said “Sometimes I’m ‘Mummy Kate’. But the other day I found myself going ‘come here to Mummy’, and Tia’s there and I go ‘oh sorry’.

“Tia said ‘Kate, it’s fine, I’m OK if you say Mummy. You don’t have to say Mummy Kate. It doesn’t bother me’.”

Despite their strong bond the brood now share, Kate previously revealed how she had spent the night in tears after not getting a card on her first Mother’s Day when she moved in with Rio and her three stepchildren.

Speaking on the couple’s Blended podcast, she admitted: “I wasn’t a biological mum. I think it was our first Mother’s Day – maybe I’d been living here about six months, something like that.

“And although I wasn’t a biological mum I kind of felt like I’d taken on the mum role. “For me, going from living at home on my own to taking the kids to school, cooking them dinner, I felt like a mum.”

Speaking to Rio – who also lost his own mother Janice in 2017 – she continued: “I really thought I might get a card from you, and I didn’t get a card from you. I felt bad to express that in front of you because you guys had lost your mum, and the kids have lost their mum.

“So I just went in my room and I just sobbed my heart out – seriously. And then I felt selfish for wanting a card, ‘How dare I want a card?’

“So anyone that’s kind of new in this situation might feel like that because it’s a weird one – ‘I wasn’t a biological parent so how could I expect that?’ But I felt like a mum.”
