The Princess of Wales was seen being greeted by Tom Cruise with a kiss at the premiere of his new movie Digger – before being charmed by two little girls
The Princess of Wales charmed Tom Cruise at a glitzy film premiere as he greeted her with a kiss before taking her by the hand on the red carpet.
Both Prince William and Kate mingled with Hollywood royalty at the world premiere of Cruise’s new film Digger. Kate wore a purple, floor-sweeping, Jenny Packham dress accessorised with Diana, Princess of Wales ’s earrings and the Queen Mother’s amethyst sautoir necklace.
The film was shown at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square theatre, central London, to raise funds for The Film and TV Charity, which works to create healthier and more supportive working environments.
As he waited to greet the royal couple, Cruise initially stood with his hands clasped but then kissed the princess on each cheek. The group stood chatting for several minutes longer than planned, laughing and joking uproariously.
A smiling Cruise commented, “great jacket” as William walked towards him wearing a tuxedo with a striking, double-breasted, velvet jacket and bow tie on the red carpet – which was black for the night. Cruise was also spotted holding Kate’s hand and helping her down the stairs on their way to the screen.
Inside the cinema William and Kate were introduced to a line-up of beneficiaries from the Film and Television Charity, including Chloe Malone, 27.
Only last year, she was sleeping rough and is still in temporary accommodation but is about to embark on a production course at the National Film and Television School thanks to the charity. She praised it for ‘saving’ her and William for his work to eradicate homelessness.
The princess was also presented with a posy and a programme by Evie Peters, seven, while four-year-old Sahrae-Lea Herbert, four, gave the Prince a programme. Both girls, who had been waiting excitedly for them, executed beautiful curtseys.
“Thank you for my lovely flowers,” Kate said. There was also an unexpected moment as David Beckham and two of his sons, Cruz and Romeo, waited in black tie to greet them and posed for a brief photocall. The princess was seen giving the boys a thumbs up.
Cast members Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Jesse Plemons and Emma D’Arcy enjoyed a brief chat with the royals before the screening.
Hannah Waddingham, who starred alongside Cruise in 2025’s Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, was also among the guests at the star-studded evening.
The premiere, which was hosted by Warner Bros Pictures and the Film and TV Charity, is the 73rd royal film performance delivered by the charity. Funds raised will be used by the charity to help support people working across the film, television and cinema industries.
This includes a 24/7 helpline, free counselling, financial grants, and a range of mental health initiatives designed to foster healthier, more supportive working environments.
