The Princess of Wales hosted Melinda French Gates for a meeting as part of her Centre for Early Childhood, where they discussed how to better support young people
The Princess of Wales has formed a partnership with Melinda Gates French for a new project in her early years campaign.
It emerged that Kate hosted Melinda French Gates, the former wife of Microsoft billionaire Bill Gates and founder of Pivotal, earlier this month in London. The meeting, as part of her Centre for Early Childhood, saw the two women discuss how to better support children and young people’s social and emotional development amid a modern world.
Kate and French Gates, the founder of the Pivotal company, which aims to promote female power and influence, previously met at Windsor Castle last year.

Christian Guy, Executive Director of The Royal Foundation for Early Childhood, said: “Groundbreaking research has uncovered something profound yet reassuring: the quality of the relationships we experience throughout our lives influences our health, happiness and wellbeing like little else.
“This enduring truth in an ever-changing world raises one of the defining questions of our age: how can we help children and young people develop the social and emotional foundations they need not only to cope with life’s challenges, but to thrive, connect and flourish?”
He added: “Together, in close partnership with Melinda’s team at Pivotal, we explored how The Shaping Us Framework, developed by the Princess alongside more than 100 human development experts from around the world, can help us think about whole-person development at every stage of life.
“At a time of division, disconnection and uncertainty, it has never been more important to help young people build the foundations for life.”
It comes after early this month that Kate revealed she has commissioned a new research project as part of her early years work, to explore how the role of nature can support social and emotional development in babies and young children.
The new research will bring together evidence, expertise and practical experience from around the UK and the world, to better understand how nature-rich environments can help nurture confident, curious, creative and emotionally healthy children.
To learn more about the potential of nature-based learning in the earliest years of life, Kate travelled to Cornwall to launch the project, working with The Duchy of Cornwall as a founding partner.
She said: “New scientific research increasingly shows just how important nature is for our psychological and physiological wellbeing.
“Nature is such an extraordinary environment for us all and, in this tech-driven, digital age, spending quality time outdoors has never been more important. This project is about exploring how nature, creativity and relationships can best support the healthy development of babies and young children.”
“We believe that taking a whole-child approach is important, and nature becomes a wonderful place to explore how we can successfully nurture the social and emotional skills that underpin lifelong health and wellbeing.”
