She recently admitted she has “hurt people deeply” during her turbulent life, but now Katie Price has gone one step further by confessing her sadness at how her behaviour has affected her own children.

The star isn’t known for expressing remorse over her wild ways, yet in the latest episode of her daughter Princess’ reality show, The Princess Diaries, the former glamour model opens up about how she bitterly regrets any negative impact she may have had on her kids’ lives.

After son Junior admits he and Princess often end up “caught in the middle” of her drama, Katie, 48, says, “I know, and that’s what I hate. Anything with me, the repercussions go on you guys.

“That’s something I can’t control, but unfortunately, you’re linked to me.”

Appearing to take on board her son’s concerns, the reality star admits her actions have “affected family and friends”, adding, “I wasn’t well. I did things and said things which I’m not proud of.”

The emotional scenes are in stark contrast to Katie’s often defensive manner where she can seem reluctant to take ownership of her behaviour.

But according to a source, seeing Princess and Junior – whose father is 53-year-old pop star Peter Andre – fight back tears as they recalled past trauma while being interviewed for her recent Sky docuseries hit the mum-of-five hard.

“Katie was mortified when she saw Princess and Junior crying during the documentary – she didn’t realise how much pain and worry she’s caused them,” says a source. “She felt very guilty as a mum. She put herself, and men, before them.”

Viewers of her hit documentary, Nothing To Hide, couldn’t help but be moved as Junior, 21, and Princess, 19, detailed their struggles while caught in the crossfire of Katie’s wayward lifestyle.

In the four-part series, Princess was seen breaking down as Junior recalled one particularly traumatic incident, where Katie came to his room in the middle of the night, clearly high on drugs.

“I woke up, probably about 3.30am, to some loud noises,” he said. “I saw her coming in the room and I’ll never forget the look on her face… she was obviously on stuff, right? I could see it in her eyes. And it scared me because I’ve never seen my mum look like that. She’s there but she’s not there. She wasn’t being a mum.”

Despite the pain and suffering she may have caused them, Junior insisted there is no bad blood and said he and Princess will “always be there for her”.

However, they both expressed regret that the public may never be willing to see their mother’s good side.

Speaking during the second episode of her ITVX reality show, Princess says, “She does sometimes say she’s never had a good headline in her life, which is sad because there’s been so many good things Mum has done. I think it’s unfair now, because she’s really fixed herself and this is the best she’s ever been mentally, so for people to acknowledge that, that would be really nice for her and really nice for us.”

When Katie responds, saying “people are still scarred” by her past antics, Princess touchingly tries to reassure her. “You’ve healed,” she says. “Like, you’re kind of back to like ‘old Mum’.”

Speaking to the camera, the teen then says how significant it is that Katie, who is also mum to Harvey, 24, is at last ready to admit her failings as a parent.

“For Mum to acknowledge that certain things might have affected me and Junior, it’s nice to hear from her,” she explains.

“About three or four years ago, she probably wouldn’t have admitted that and I feel like our family is kind of back to… I wouldn’t say ‘normal’, ’cos nothing’s normal with Mum. But we all feel loved.”

According to the source, Katie is now doing her best to make amends. “She carries huge guilt, but she’s apologised to Princess and explained she was having a breakdown at the time,” says the source. “Princess is a really sweet girl and at the end of the day, she loves her mum and wants the best for her.”

Yet with Katie now embroiled in more turmoil with her fourth husband, Lee Andrews, there could still be rocky times – as well as further embarrassment for her children – ahead.

Last week, new told how Katie has been living in fear after Lee, who claims to be a multimillionaire businessman, reportedly attempted to sell a sex tape he claimed to have involving himself and Katie. Katie has denied such a tape exists, but last month admitted that the “noise” surrounding her marriage to Lee has become “overwhelming”.

Also, her ex-husband, cage-fighter Alex Reid, is planning a tell-all live show this month, in which he says nothing – including questions about Katie – will be “off limits”.

While Katie might be keen to spare her children any further heartache, the source says one of her biggest concerns is what she may have missed out on in the past. “She’s got huge regrets and really wishes she could turn back the clock. They were the best days of her life when the kids were little,” says the source. “So she really wants to make it up to them and be part of what they’re doing now. She’s hugely proud of them.”
