Hyderabad: The South Central Railway on Wednesday inspected the newly commissioned Sitaphalmandi-Lallaguda chord line in Hyderabad, aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time.

The inspection was led by general manager Sanjay Kumar Srivastava, who conducted a trolley inspection of the section, reviewing signalling systems, points and crossings along the route.

The newly laid chord line connects the Secunderabad-Kazipet main line with the Secunderabad-Dhone line, bypassing Secunderabad station. The 3 km stretch enables trains from Kazipet to reach Kacheguda via Lallaguda directly, reducing the distance by about 12 km and travel time by around 20 minutes.

Officials said the project includes five minor bridges and a major road underbridge at Alugadda Baavi. An automatic signalling system has been installed on the section.

Earlier, trains travelling from Kazipet to Kacheguda via Secunderabad had to pass through Moula-Ali and Malkajgiri, covering a longer route of about 15 km. The new alignment is expected to ease congestion and improve operational efficiency.

The chord line originates from Lallaguda, passes through Sitaphalmandi ‘A’ and ‘B’ cabins, and joins at Sitaphalmandi station.

During the visit, the General Manager also inspected Sitaphalmandi station, including the circulating area, cleanliness, waiting hall, ticket counters, platforms and passenger amenities. He reviewed the Station Master’s room, signalling systems and safety equipment at the station.
