Chennai: Residents of Keerapakkam near Vandalur resorted to a road blockade protest on Sunday night demanding supply of drinking water, resulting in the stopping of traffic on the Kandigai-Keerapakkam road for about an hour.
About 15,000 people are living in Keerapakkam, Murugamangalam and Arungal villages coming under the Keerapakkam panchayat. There was an acute water shortage in Keerapakkam, Murugamangalam and Vinayagapuram for the last two weeks.
The people submitted complaints to the panchayat and other officials but there was no response. So, they resorted to a road blockade protest demanding drinking water supply on Sunday night on the Kandigai-Keerapakkam road stopping the traffic for about an hour. Police who came to the spot held negotiations with the protesters and pacified the villagers
