It’s been about a year since Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brendon Blackstock left the world. Recently, in late July 2026, The Voice‘s coach opened up about her life post his demise. She revealed her thoughts on moving on with someone new and shared her current relationship status. She made the candid revelations at her Studio Sessions show at Caesars Palace, and the particular clip was widely circulated online.

Is Kelly Clarkson ready to move on about a year after her ex-husband’s death?

Kelly Clarkson, for the first time, opened up about her personal life, 11 months after the death of her ex-husband, Brendon Blackstock. During the latest episode of her show, Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions, she addressed the curiosity regarding her love life. The Miss Independent singer mentioned being single ever since her divorce from talent manager, Brandon was finalized in 2022.

Kelly shared that people were stunned to learn about her relationship status, and she was confused as to why they reacted that way. She, however, was glad to go solo without being bound by any romantic relationship. She jovially stated that many attractive individuals made singlehood look and feel amazing.

Kelly Clarkson further explained herself for the ones who might not have understood what her statement meant. The American Idol winner used her signature humor to share that while looking at committed people around, she realized that she was better off alone. Calling the constant pondering upon romance “shit”, Kelly stated:

“People are like, ‘Oh, why are you single?’ And I’m like, ‘First of all, there are a lot of people out here making single look real good.’…And if you didn’t really understand what I meant by that, it’s like you see relationships and you’re like, ‘I am so glad I’m going home alone.’…You know what’s not happening in my house? That shit.”

Kelly, who is a mom of two, shared that getting into a relationship was easy but maintaining it was extremely difficult. For her, the hardest part seemed to be keeping the spark alive and making things work. Dating someone and being with them should feel magical, not routine. As per her, it takes a lot of effort to keep it from turning ordinary. Her exact words were:

“If you are in a relationship, the hardest part I feel like is just keeping that fire alive and still dating. And, like, still making it feel magical and not monotonous.”

Notably, it was not the first time Kelly Clarkson shared her scepticism regarding dating. Previously, during her Las Vegas audience in July 2025, she told the audience, “Dating can be very difficult, which is why I don’t.” She also once stated that dating “is hard anyway” and it can be a “dumpster fire” when you “add a spotlight.” It probably means that even if she chooses to start a romance with someone in the future, she wouldn’t want to go public with the person.

All about Kelly Clarkson and Brendon Blackstock’s messy divorce

Kelly Clarkson and Brendon Blackstock were long-time partners before they tied the knot in 2013 in an intimate wedding. After nine months of marriage, they separated in 2020 with explosive court battles over finances, custody of their kids, and her allegations that he had overstepped as her manager.

The divorce was finalized in 2022, with Kelly being ordered to pay her ex-husband a one-time amount of over USD 1.3 million in addition to monthly spousal support of USD 115,000 and child support worth USD 45,601 monthly. However, she later won a USD 2.6 million judgement when the court ruled in her favour over financial disputes.

The ugly divorce battle left Kelly and Brandon’s relationship strained, and they reportedly saw co-parenting as ‘tense and exhausting’. Despite their contentious divorce, everything changed when Blackstock’s cancer diagnosis was confirmed. The Tightrope singer reportedly put aside the past, making sure that Brandon wasn’t alone in his final days, no matter what happened between them.
