Thiruvananthapuram: The Keralam government on Saturday appointed new office-bearers to several major cultural institutions, amid criticism over the delay in making the appointments after the UDF came to power.
A statement issued by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Cinema said poet, writer and orator Kalpetta Narayanan has been appointed chairman of the Kerala Sahitya Akademi, while writer and journalist M P Surendran will be its new secretary.
Renowned singer and music composer G Venugopal will head the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi as chairman, it said.
Hemanthkumar, who has been active in theatre and cultural activities, will be the vice-chairman, while N V Pradeepkumar will be the new secretary.
Actor and film festival curator Ravindran has been appointed chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Akademi, the statement said.
Actor and cultural activist Priyanka Nair will be the vice-chairperson, while actor Salim Hassan and filmmaker Jofin T Chacko will be members of the executive committee.
Actor and cultural activist Premkumar has been appointed chairman of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation (KSFDC), with director and producer Alleppey Ashraf as vice-chairman, it said.
Premkumar had earlier served as chairman and vice-chairman of the Kerala State Chalachitra Akademi during the previous LDF government.
Film producer M Ranjith has been appointed chairman of the Kerala Cultural Workers Welfare Fund Board, which works for the welfare of artists and cultural workers.
Animator and production designer Prakash Moorthy will be the chairman of the Kerala Lalithakala Akademi, officials said.
Artist T R Udaya Kumar will be the vice-chairman, while Vaikom M K Shibu will be the secretary.
Suresh Babu Elayavoor, a prominent figure in the folk arts and cultural sector and state vice-chairman of the Gandhi Darshan Vedi, will head the Kerala Folklore Akademi, the statement said.
Tribal rights activist and cultural worker Sreeraman Koyyon will be the vice-chairman.
Pradeepkumar Payyannur, who had earlier served as the academy’s secretary, will be the new member secretary, it added.
