Kerry Katona has been left “gobsmacked” by her recent chart success with a brand new single, almost 30 years after she first found fame as a member of Atomic Kitten

Kerry Katona has been left “gobsmacked” after scoring a Top 10 single. The 45-year-old star initially found fame as an original member of Atomic Kitten alongside Liz McClarnon and Natasha Hamilton and released tracks such as Right Now with them but quit just weeks before their now-signature track Whole Again appeared in the iTunes charts.

Kerry then went on to win I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, feature in several reality shows about her own life and publish a string of autobiographies but has now gone back to her music roots with a new single to champion England in the World Cup.

Home Again is a reworking of Atomic Kitten’s most famous song, and a portion of the proceeds will be donated to The Foster Care Charity.

Writing in her new! magazine column, Kerry, who spent part of her childhood in the care system, expressed her shock that the song had entered the Top 10 on the iTunes chart.

She said: “To say I am completely gobsmacked that Home Again has gone into the Top 10 is an understatement-I can’t bloody believe it!

“What started out as a bit of a laugh with the intention of raising money for The Foster Care Charity, has turned into something so much more and I’m thrilled. Good Morning Britain invited me on last week to talk about it and, as usual, the team were lovely.

“But given that was really the only publicity I’ve done on a big scale, I’m shocked and delighted that you lot have been downloading the song.

“It took me back to my girl band days. We grafted to get our first Top 10 single. So to do this now again on my own, it’s a dream come true. Thank you.”

Kerry is currently on tour with Super Troupers, an all-singing, all-dancing show that pays tribute to ABBA and jukebox musical Mamma Mia!, but earlier this year, she playfully teased the idea of her and her best pal Katie Price collaborating for a duet.

At the time, she said: “I’m so excited to go on the road with Super Troupers this year. I do Butlins, I do karaoke. I’m a performer, I like being on stage, making people laugh.

“I am not the kind of person who wants to go in a studio and do an album, but I think it would be hilarious if me and Katie dressed up as our ex-husbands to do a mash-up of Peter Andre ’s Mysterious Girl and Westlife’s Flying Without Wings in jest.

“Can you imagine the music video?! We could donate the money to important causes – like people in refuges and those going through domestic violence.” Kerry was married to Westlife star Brian McFadden from 2002 until 2006 while Katie wed Peter Andre in 2005 until the pair split in 2009.
