Ketan Agarwal Case, Cops Reportedly To Face A Tough Time Proving Siya Goyal As The Accused In Court

A young Ketan Agarwal lost his life in the hands of Siya Goyal and her alleged lover, Chetan Chaudhary. Siya had told the cops that killing Ketan was easier than telling her family about Chetan. She also disliked him as he wore a wig. Now, under Indian law, when a confession is made before the cops, it is not seen as evidence.

How will the police prove that Siya Goyal is the main murderer of Ketan Agarwal?

According to social media reports, Indian law states that an accused’s confession is not admissible evidence. The confession must be supported by fresh evidence or be voluntarily recorded before a magistrate. If this does not happen, then it cannot be made as a basis for conviction.

The Ketan Agarwal murder case is testing one of the oldest principles of Indian criminal law. Whether an unbroken chain of circumstantial evidence can establish guilt beyond reasonable doubt. Cops have claimed that Siya, along with her alleged lover, Chetan, had conspired to kill an innocent Ketan. Reportedly, Siya and Chetan are in judicial custody till July 15, 2026.

What looked like a trekking accident at Lohagad Fort turned into Pune’s most horrific murder. Well, the allegations on Siya have not yet been proved, and the outcome of the case will depend on many things. It will not depend on police claims or public opinion, but on whether the prosecution can establish a full chain of circumstantial evidence.

Police statements may not be enough to prove Siya Goyal as a murderer.

The cops had earlier revealed that Siya Goyal was not at all happy with an arranged marriage with Ketan. She reportedly was in a relationship with Chetan and had met him many times at a cafe to rehearse the crime scenes. They also had made one unsuccessful attempt before allegedly killing Ketan at Lohagad Fort.

However, Redditors feel that a criminal court cannot convict someone because “everyone knows” or because the circumstances look suspicious. A Redditor had mentioned that the prosecution must establish guilt beyond a reasonable doubt using credible, admissible evidence. A part of the comment read:

“For example, an alleged affair may establish a possible motive, but motive alone does not prove a conspiracy to commit murder. Likewise, if the accused met at a coffee shop before the incident, a court will ask: What evidence shows they discussed a murder plan? Was there a witness who overheard the conversation? An audio recording? Text messages? Emails? Any other evidence demonstrating a criminal agreement?”

Another user had written about how it is deeply heartbreaking to hear everyone talking about Siya and Ketan’s case. A part of the comment read, “Our hearts ache for the victims who suffered and tragically lost their lives. And they are the ones who matter most. Clearly, this is not a gender issue, and we should not be targeting any particular gender. The sad reality is that accused individuals of all genders commit these horrific acts, and a focus should remain entirely on justice for those we lost.”

It is worth noting that in the Siya Goyal case, everything is based on circumstantial evidence. Unlike other cases with eyewitnesses or direct forensic evidence, the Lohagad investigation does not rely heavily on such evidence. The cops are relying a lot on mobile phone records, CCTV footage, location data, digital communication, clothing, forensic evidence and also on Ketan Agarwal’s conduct before and after his death.

The cops had earlier spoken about Siya and Ketan’s alleged planned meetings, phone recordings and varied rehearsals. All of these claims have to be supported with a lot of admissible evidence. A relationship may involve motive, but it cannot alone be proven as murder.
