Kalaburagi: AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday dubbed Prime Minister Narendra Modi a “maatina malla” (all talk and no action) and accused his government of relying on rhetoric while failing to tackle rising prices, unemployment, and economic distress.

Addressing reporters here, Kharge alleged that the BJP government had failed to fulfil the promises made to the people and failed on all fronts.

“Prices of cooking gas, petrol, and diesel continue to rise. The government seems unconcerned about the hardships faced by ordinary people. The faith that people reposed in Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP by electing them to power is gradually eroding,” he said.

Kharge accused the Centre of relying on rhetoric instead of providing solutions to pressing issues. “Modi ji is trying to convince people, but has failed to take concrete steps to solve their problems. Whenever questions are raised, the blame is shifted to the Opposition. The BJP keeps claiming that the Opposition is not cooperating in the country’s development, but that is not true,” he said.

The Congress president maintained that opposition parties were playing their role responsibly and doing whatever they could. He alleged that several programmes and assurances announced by the Centre had failed to deliver the promised results.

Referring to the economy, Kharge said inflation continued to rise while the rupee had weakened. He also criticised the Centre’s handling of unemployment, claiming that the government was not treating the issue with the seriousness it deserved.

“The unemployment problem remains unresolved. The government is not serious about creating jobs. Even schemes such as MGNREGA, which were introduced by the Congress and benefited millions of rural families, are not receiving adequate support and funding,” he alleged.

Claiming that the government had fallen short on multiple fronts, Kharge said the BJP leadership was more focused on speeches than governance.

“In every sector, this government has failed. There is more talk than action,” he added.
