Location, Location, Location star Kirstie Allsopp has been open about her hospital dash whilst on holiday.

Location, Location, Location is back on Channel 4 and in the latest episode, host Kirstie Allsopp is in Cheshire with Ruth and Ryan, “who’ve been spoiled by renting a house they can’t afford to buy but hope to find something just as good for them and their young family”. The 55-year-old presenter, who is also known for her appearance on Love It or List It UK, has a fascinating life away from the cameras.
The star is the eldest child of Charles Allsopp, 6th Baron Hindlip, a former chairman of the auction house Christie’s. She is also the cousin of designer and businesswoman Cath Kidston. Opening up about her childhood, the presenter told The Guardian in 2010 she had attended 10 schools throughout her education, admitting: “I went to 10 schools because I was just so happy at home and, consequently, not happy at any school. My parents’ domestic life seemed really lovely; it was all I wanted.
“For someone who seems hugely conventional, I’m not a conformist. I wanted to be my mum, but even though I didn’t have a career in mind, I did work. From the age of 15, I was a Christie’s porter every holiday, and by 17 was working full-time for an estate agent.” She would go on to set up her own home search company, Kirmir, in 1996.
As for her personal life, Allsopp’s husband is property developer Ben Andersen and the couple got married after 21 years together at Grosvenor Chapel in January 2025. They have two sons together, and Allsopp is also stepmother to Andersen’s two sons from a previous relationship.
The family has two homes, one in Notting Hill, London, and a home they restored themselves called Meadowgate, in Welcombe in rural Devon. Allsopp spoke to West London Living about where she spends all of her time, saying: “Between Devon and Notting Hill. Because basically, I think they’re the nicest places to live.
“I love West London. We grew up in the country, but always had a flat in Knightsbridge and West London was very exciting growing up. When we met, my partner had a house in Devon, so we spent every weekend and holiday there. I love London and would never leave, but Devon is amazing and the children love it.”
In 2008, she bought and restored Meadowgate, which had been empty for almost 40 years. The star documented the restoration as part of her TV series, Kirstie’s Homemade Home. The house is now available for the public to rent and it has three double bedrooms, a twin room and an additional twin bunk room, as well as a sixth bedroom separate from the main house.
The presenter explained how her family uses the Devon home on X, clarifying: “Meadowgate is our family holiday home, we go there for holidays & rent it out to other families.” It was during a holiday in Devon earlier in September 2026 when the star was airlifted to hospital for surgery after slipping and injuring her leg.
She had been walking home from a beach and had slipped on a muddy patch on a steep path, whilst walking back with her family following her birthday celebrations. Taking to Instagram to explain what happened, she said she had been to a picnic on the beach at Welcombe Mouth as part of a family tradition when she slipped.
She said it took “a whole host of people to get me to hospital”, adding: “After a little wait while poor Oscar [her son] ran as fast as he could to get help, and the RNLI Bude Lifeboat paramedics and Cornwall Air Ambulance tracked me down.” She underwent an operation on her leg, saying: “It’ll be a boot and crutches for a while, but I feel very, very lucky that it was possible to reach me and get me to hospital so quickly, and I have a job that I can do on crutches.
“Not a birthday I am going to forget in a hurry and again, thank you to all those who have been involved in my care.” Three weeks after the incident, she offered an update, saying: “Things are improving slowly but surely.”
