Hyderabad:Union minister for coal and mines G. Kishan Reddy on Friday accused Congress of “stealing the people’s verdict” in Telangana through defections, saying the party had no moral right to allege vote theft against others or question the Election Commission.
He ridiculed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for lecturing on democracy on the day the Supreme Court upheld the disqualification of former Khairatabad MLA Danam Nagender. “Instead of welcoming the court order and apologising, he chose to teach lessons on democracy. This is ridiculous,” Reddy said. He held Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy responsible for inducting 10 MLAs elected from other parties.
Reddy alleged that Congress, unable to win people’s trust, was venting its frustration on constitutional institutions. “Whenever people reject them, they target the Supreme Court one day and the Election Commission the next,” he said, adding that the party raises baseless cries of misuse whenever agencies like the ED and CBI probe corruption.
He questioned Rahul Gandhi’s claim that BJP won through “vote theft” wherever the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral roll is done, citing Tamil Nadu and Kerala where the BJP did not sweep win.
Calling Rahul Gandhi’s remarks branding the Prime Minister and home minister “traitors” unfortunate, Reddy demanded an apology. He said over 92 per cent of voters exercised their franchise in recent polls and it was “shameful” to compare them with Iraq or North Korea. Later, Reddy joined Ganesh immersion festivities in Amberpet constituency, recalling Lokmanya Tilak’s role in collective celebrations and praising late leader Tiger Narendra for founding the Bhagyanagar Ganesh Utsav Samiti. He urged devotees to follow police instructions and prayed for peace and prosperity.
