Raipur: With chief minister Vishnu Deo Sai by his side, speaker of the Chhattisgarh Assembly and former CM Dr. Raman Singh took serious exception to the mismanagement at a government-sponsored mass wedding programme by the local district administration in Bemetara in the state, calling it a system degeneration.

Dr. Singh who is known for maintaining a calm and composed demeanor in public had taken everyone present on the occasion by surprise when he lost his cool to find gross mismanagement at the function, held on Sunday.

“The entire state ministry including the chief minister are present here. Still the officers are not serious (about the situation)”, he noted.

Even the protocol for receiving the chief minister by the administration at the function was violated when he was made to enter the venue from the backside, Dr. Singh said.

The former chief minister said that he had never seen such mismanagement by the administration and systemic failure in his whole political career which included his 15-year-stint as chief minister of Chhattisgarh.

“I usually never speak in such a manner (loose temper) on such occasions. But I felt that the officers were not serious even when the chief minister and his entire ministry were present. That’s why I raised the matter to make them (officers) learn”, he added.

The incident happened when the arrangements for holding the mass wedding programme under the ‘Mukhyamantri Kanya Vivah Yojana’ were completely disrupted when sudden rains lashed the venue.

As many as 21 couples including the local BJP MLA Dipesh Sahu and his bride tied the nuptial knots at the mass wedding programme.

Dignitaries such as the chief minister, the Assembly speaker and ministers in the state government were present on the occasion to bless the couples.

Later, the venue of the programme was shifted to the auditorium hall of the government guest house in Bemetara.

Dr. Singh said that the alternative site could have been arranged beforehand to avoid such a situation.

Chief minister Mr. Sai however sought to underplay the issue saying that the sudden rains had disrupted the arrangement.

He however ordered the local divisional commissioner to probe the mismanagement of the programme.
